Subject: Alyssa Wing Pre Season AVCA All America Watch List 2012

American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) will release the fifth annual Under Armour Watch List

On Monday, August 27 the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) will release the fifth annual Under Armour Watch List and the inaugural AVCA Phenom List to kick-off its fall high school awards season.

The Under Armour Watch List identifies elite high school senior volleyball players who possess the potential to be considered for the Under Armour High School All-America Awards Program.  Clinton volleyball player, senior, Alyssa Wing, has been identified by the AVCA as an elite & rising student-athlete and will be recognized on the 2012 Under Armour Watch List. The watch list will be released August 27 on the AVCA website.   Alyssa has received numerous awards throughout her volleyball career.  She is a two time All MAC performer, including 2011 when she helped her team tie for the Conference Championship & was recognized as an All Stater & the Mississippi Athletic Conference Player of the Year!  Alyssa is eligible for inclusion on this list, because her high school head coach, Mark Massey, is an active AVCA member.  The AVCA feels that Alyssa possesses the potential to be selected as a 2012 Under Armour High School All-American.  In December, the AVCA will name 48 student-athletes as a First & Second Team Under Armour All-American. First team selections will be invited to participate in the Under Armour High School All-America High School Volleyball Match in Louisville, Kentucky.

In order for a student-athlete to be eligible for placement on this watch list her high school head coach must be an active AVCA member and she must have received an honor indicating that she is a top player in her region or the country.   Alyssa was selected Mississippi Athletic Conference Player of the Year 2011, Clinton Herald Player of the Year 2011, 1st Team All Quad City Metro as a soph & junior, & MVP of the Sports’ Performance Presidents’ Day Qualifier in Shaumburg, Illinois.

Mark Massey:  “Obviously I am extremely happy & excited that Alyssa has been selected as the first CHS volleyball player to have been placed on this watch list.  This may be the highest honor that a CHS VB player has ever received while still at Clinton High School.  I think that this is a thrill for all CHS volleyball fans & reflects very positively, not only on Alyssa, but her teammates & the CHS.  I certainly plan to be nominating her after October 19, when nominations actually open up.  We try to establish a culture that allows student-athletes to thrive & achieve to high expectations not only in the classroom but as an athlete as well.  One of the things that I think is so cool about this “watch list” is that the AVCA selects the players.  Alyssa’s play in earning Player of the Year honors in the MAC & throughout her club experience earned her this attention.  I have had the good fortune to coach some very outstanding players, if you are discussing some of these very best then I think that you would obviously include Alyssa in this select group.  I am excited for Alyssa’s to go out and have a dominant senior season!!  This is quite an honor for Alyssa & her family!”
